80/20 Rule

Mastering the 80/20 rule is the key to a life of fulfillment and enjoyment.

I was at a meeting with some buddies, and we talked about priorities. One of the guys, who works in a corporate culture,  shared the mantra “give 110%.”

Well, that isn't possible. If you give 100%, that's all you can do. It maxes out.

A Navy SEALs friend of mine shared this. They perpetuated this idea to operate at 75-80% of capacity because if something comes at you, you can't possibly dial it up past 100%.

You're exhausted. You're at full tilt. You're giving it your all. You have nothing left in the tank to take it up a notch.  It's why in athletics, it's taught to play the game at a 7 energy level.  Not lagging, but not so hyped up that you crash and burn.

If you're at 75 and 80 and you need to rise up, you have that reserve to do so.

How much do we go through life maxed out?  Our schedule is slammed full; we can't possibly put another thing on our plate.  What are our priorities?

Once you master the 80/20 rule, 80% consistently has you in the game. The following 20% is where gold is found.

Mastering the 80/20 rule is the key to a life of fulfillment and enjoyment.
