Attracting Leaders

This thought comes from the Daily Reader that I read from John Maxwell. It says, "If you're not attracting the leaders you desire, spend more time developing yourself."

Many times in life, we look at our organization, our business, wherever it may be, and say, "I wish I had more leaders. How do you get more leaders?"

People have asked my wife and I,  "How do you attract leaders?"

Well, I’ve learned you don't attract leaders. You develop them. You help people grow and develop and part of that is developing yourself. If you're focusing on developing yourself, you can't help but develop those around you.

It's kind of like this group that grows together, goes together.

You may find yourself in a situation asking yourself, "Why can't I find more people that want me to lead them higher?" or “Why can't I find people that have a heart and desire to lead?"

Start to focus hard on developing yourself.  I've spent so much time there in the last five years. As I reflect about the people of my inner circle today, I realize they are there because of the focus I had on growing myself the last 5 years.

Well, I’ve learned you don't attract leaders. You develop them.

If you're focusing on developing yourself, you can't help but develop those around you.
