Podcast Transcription

[TYLER DICKERHOOF]: Welcome to the Impact Driven Leader Podcast. My name is Tyler Dickerhoof, and I'm not only the host or participant here on the podcast, but I'm here to walk on the journey with you. See, to me, an impact-driven leader is one that builds others through an understanding that we all have shortcomings and insecurities. And yet our unique strengths can empower others to achieve more. Their super power, the impact-driven leader super power is the understanding. When we lift others and work together, we create a better world. We create a true impact. See to me being of impact is not about success. It's more along the lines of significance. Now this is a journey I had to learn. I'll walk through some of my past and my experiences as we go through this podcast. And I'm excited to be able to bring to you authors, authors that have written books that have made a difference in my life. Now, authors that I feel, books that have really changed the way I look at things, how I have developed as a leader, because I can tell you if you're listening to this, if you're like me many years ago and still days and times is I don't have it figured out. I'm learning and I'm willing to put those people around me that make me better and stronger. See I've learned as a leader is, it's not about what I know. It's how I can take and learn something and teach it and help others grow. That really helps me grow as a leader. It helps me become a better person. It helps me make a true impact. So, I'm excited for you guys to start into this journey, to start in this journey of listening to these podcasts. And then I invite you. I invite you into a special community, the Impact Driven Leader community, where we're going to have a book club. So, each month I'll pick a book, I'll interview the author, we'll be here, we'll ask questions. We'll kind of get to know them as a person, but then we'll take it to a community. And we'll read this book together. We'll learn lessons in the book. We'll be able to share and also have a few little extras from the author. I'll have more of an interview with them where we get maybe a little personal. I'd love for you to know that every leader, whether they're an author, whether they're, you know, a Fortune 500, whether they're a mom at home, they have similarities. And we all have challenges. See, for me, it was my insecurities that held me back from becoming the leader that I know I'm possible to become. I'm not there yet. I'm on a journey and I'm thankful for people like you, people that are choosing to listen into this podcast to be a part of the community that selfishly it's going to help me grow. It's going to make me face some of my insecurities, some of my weaknesses in order that I can, yes, come back and understand that as an impact-driven leader, it's not about me. And I encourage you to come on this journey to do listen in as I talk to these authors that some of them have become friends. Some of them are truly mentors through the books they've written, but more importantly, I'd love to share with you the experiences of other listeners, just like yourselves that maybe have taken these books or maybe written books on their own and can reflect back and say, "That journey of learning and sharing and being a part of community, that's what helped me become a better leader." One of the things that I believe in, and really why I chose to create this format of an interview podcast then into a book club was because I believe people learn more when they do it together. And I believe as part of that is as you're entering into this journey, people don't have that figured out. People don't, I didn't. Five years ago, I didn't listen to podcasts. Five years ago, I didn't read a lot of books, but then I had this kind of stirring in me that I wanted to be able to accomplish more. I want to be able to serve people in a bigger way. And I started to really grow. And as a part of that, I understood that I needed to read and I have this whole new world opened up to me. And maybe you're at that place now where you feel like I did. I was a man on an Island. I was trying to figure it all out on my own. I had my insecurities that were just building walls all around me and I chose to start reading. And when I started to read, I started to question things like, "Oh man." I started to, you know, really grab a hold of what I didn't know and realize I need to go be in community with others. I've been fortunate. I've had that in my life the last 10 years, but I really didn't take advantage of it till about five or six years ago when I started to read books. And what I found is when I got to share those with other people in my life, is that when it really expanded, I got to a whole new level. I, as you, I've never had an intentional plan. And so what I'm going to lay out is I'm going to commit to once a month interview an author. We're going to read through that book, and from that interview, I'm going to learn about them. I'm going to learn about their book and what they really intended for the reader to gain. I'm going to invite you into a community where you can join myself and many others and read that book together where we're going to share information and there's going to be extras from the author. Do I know what that is? No, but I'm going to be asking them. I know there's going to be a more intimate interview that's going to be a part of that book club. So, I encourage you, after you listen to this podcast, after you subscribe to this to go to impactdrivenleaderpodcast.com, sign up for the book club, join the community because I know this as well as I hope you will understand too. Leaders are made better together. If you're a part of a community, if you're part of a group and you realize you're not alone on an Island, I can guarantee you're going to get better. It's not always going to be easy, but I'm going to help you through that. I'm going to guide with you the, be your guide through the process of, "Hey, what do some of these books teach us? How can we learn from that? Man, I'm not alone because I'm going to be your partner. I'm going to learn through this too." There's failures that I've had. There's failures that I'll share with you because I believe one of the biggest things for me is coming to grips with my insecurities. Those insecurities to me have been the wall that haven't allowed me to be the leader that I know I've been called to be. So, I encourage you enjoy these podcasts, enjoy these authors, enjoy some of my friends that are going to come along and we'll record some episodes and I'll have them share about the books that have made an impact in their life, in the communities that have made an impact in their life. So, I am excited for this journey. I'm excited to learn, but I'm excited to share in that learning. So, thank you for being here as listening to the first episode of the Impact Driven Leader Podcast. And what I'm going to share with you in the next few weeks or a few episodes that I've previously interviewed authors on a previous podcast on the Impact Makers Podcast that I hosted with my wife. And I know that these episodes are going to give you a great flavor of what's to come. So, thank you again, subscribe, share, rate as you're listening these episodes. So, that way more people like you can be impacted.
