Check Your Map
If you don’t check your map, how will you know you’re on the right road?
If you don’t check your goals, if you don’t look at them, if you don’t evaluate them, how will you know that you’re on the path to where you want to go?
You can have a dream and a desire all you want, but until you actually put that into action and then follow a plan, stopping to sit back, evaluate, and reflect saying, “Where am I off? What did I do? How did I stop to make sure this is making progress and we’re on the right path?”, then how will you ever know you’re off base?
What I learned this morning is that I have some things going in the right direction, but oh man, I need to make some adjustments. I have a sticky note on my computer monitor that reads “Fail more everyday.” Now right beside it, I have another little note that has some goals on it. I know where my goals are, I know where I’m at so I can check on my map and say, “Oh, I need to change that. I need to check that off the list. That’s done. That’s in progress,” as opposed to just thinking it will happen because we have these intentions too often for all of us. We have these dreams, we have these desires, and we set ourselves on a path.
We put our car in drive out of park, shift it in there, maybe you have Tesla, and you have autopilot. Every once in a while, you have to stop and recheck. You have to fuel up. You have to charge up.
You maybe want to take a slight detour, that’s fine. Detours can be where the best learning or scenery is. But if you’re not checking your map, if you’re not looking at it to say, “Am I on the right path? Am I going in the right direction?,” you’re going to end up sitting and just spinning your wheels.
So my encouragement to you today is to check your map. Make it front and center, so you can utilize it as a tool to direct you along the right path.
