A Leader's Role

A leader's role is contribution, not authority.

If you seek a title, you're just trying to gain authority.

If you contribute, if you engage, if you multiply the efforts of others, guess what you're going to do? You’re going to be contributing, and that title is going to appear.

I just got done reading the Leadership Secrets of Nick Saban, my friend Adam Roach shared with me. Great book. I loved it.

One of the things that Nick said is teams that go after a title do not have anywhere in their offices or in their locker rooms that says “Our goal this year is to be national champions.”

What are they doing to attain greatness every day? That's a contribution.

Don't get that mixed up.

Don't think that once you have authority or a title, then you get to contribute.

Contribute. The title will come.
