Acting vs. Reacting

Acting is intentional. Reacting is simply responding.

There are things in life that we have to react to, but the more we act intentionally, the less we have to respond to something coming our way.

Reacting is just responding to someone else's actions—kind of just along for the ride.

If you're playing chess, for example. You take the other person and make them make a mistake. That means you're acting with intention.

I'm a soccer player, a soccer coach; I help my son play soccer. One of the things I encourage him to do is, "Hey, make them make a mistake." Now, that isn't reacting. That is acting in a way that they create the mistake.

As we look at how we serve people, look to act. Be with intention rather than reacting to what people say.

If people are doing things out the world and making noise, man, just block it out.

Act. Act intentionally. Put blinders on. Just make sure that you are focused on your vision and your mission.

Convey those things, and you'll always be acting intentionally.

Be with intention rather than reacting to what people say.
