If we understand why people are doing things, we know the power that drives them.
Our society is not dictated solely by political power. Look at the uprisings around the world with social pressure.
Social power drives people to react to the desire to be accepted socially.
The confusing factor is when the values that drive a society do not fit your values.
If you succumb to social pressure that doesn't fit your values, your values have been undermined.
